Kijiji - Better than Craigslist?

KijijiIn a new quest to find out if I could buy a pygmy hedgehog in Toronto (ok, don’t ask), I stumbled upon quite a neat new-to-me classifieds site - Kijiji.
The word “kijiji” (pronounced like key-gee-gee) means “village” in Swahili. This name was chosen because it captures the essence of what we are creating - a site where people can connect with others in their community. Kijiji sites are currently available in more than 300 cities in 20 markets around the world. In Canada, Kijiji was launched in Montreal and Quebec City in February 2005. In November 2005, Kijiji expanded across the country and is now in over 35 cities coast to coast.
Upon first inspection, it seems really good - the layout, the interface and the features are well thought-out and easy to use.  I took advantage of the email notification, and it worked perfectly this morning!. All the features are free, akin to Craigslist, but it actually looks attractive….whereas Craigslist looks like something i made in a unix shell for Lynx 13 years ago.

Apparently i am late to the table - as it looks like Kijiji has a healthy roster of classifieds to choose from… if you are looking for something interesting, and it doesn’t have to be a pygmy hedgehog, give it test-drive - they have city specific classifieds for over 30 Canadian locations… I’m off to look for trees.

Hi Jules,

Glad to hear you like Kijiji and found it useful. Thanks for your support,

Craig

kijiji is a cool site, bright green and yellow colours lends finesse to its appearance and overall design. More importantly, it also has good quality of content. However, it will take some doing to beat craigslist.

Gee, thanks Brian for sharing the fact that you've got 2 bikes for sale. Although, you realize, this *ISN'T Craigslist, or Kijiji.
Unless you want ME to sell your bikes for you?

Kjiji may be better than craiglist but it is not a user-friendly site. It takes lots of time to find the desired buyer or seller. also to contact that person is a big problem. Therefore i prefer to use sites like clickindia.com or sysindia.com as they provide huge variety of classified portals and also easy contact can be made with the desired person through free n instant sms and email.

Kijij Vs Craigslist well first off kijiji lacks allot of support the best response you can get from them is from the kijiji discussion forms from some moderator telling you try to email support and "hope for a responce"that and 1.25 will get me a cup of coffee.
Craigslist now here is the place to post, no fancy fake ads all over the place and end users get what they want.
support is always there.
Thanks

Both kijiji and craigslist are both ok, however...

Why sell your stuff when you can auction it for free?

This site is new, but it will take off...

I find the ads on kijiji distracting and annoying. Yes, their site is more colourful and "cute," but I appreciate that craigslist doesn't bombard us with outside advertisement.

First of all to post an ad in kijiji is too complicated. After the ad is posted is very difficult to find it.
Cragslist is a good because they have a lot of traffic, but the site has no life at all. It is very boring to visit craigslist
Craigslist is the pioneer in this kind of business but they never improve their site.
I sell many products on the internet and I've been using kijiji, Cragslist and Ebay for my business. Now I discover a new site called RAZZZA - http://www.razzza.com which is far much much better than kijiji and craigslist.
Razzza is very easy to use, very fast and also free
it takes less than a minute to post an ad in Razzza.
I have improve my sell in 2000% since I am using Razzza
I highly recommend RAZZZA. I am sure this site will be the number 1 in the world soon. It is also fun to post an ad in Razzza. and site is just too beautiful to see

Guys how about www.addanything.com so much easier to use and the posting takes place on one single page. You can upload images, insert weblinks and post as many times as you wish (for now i guess) Anyway, doesn't hurt for us to try them. Plus to be honest with you, the site is so much easier on the eyes then craigslist.

I just recently joined a project, which has pretty big hopes of becoming the next Kijiji. As an experienced developer I know technically, this can always be done, but as a moonlighting marketing guy, I am not so certain.

I have been googling all day for blogs about people complaining/praising Kijiji, Craigslist, etc in hopes of getting some valuable user feedback.

This post, by far, has been the most helpful to me and is totally getting printed and shown to my manager. I just finished re-implementing the classifieds front end interface to be more SEO/SEF URI's.

The web site is still in early beta -- but I would love to hear any feedback any of you have in regards to our classifieds (user interface, usability, etc). Any feedback greatly appreciated, good or bad.

Hi guys,

A friend mentioned http://www.classifiedland.com a couple of days ago.
I decided to give it a try and I was really impressed.
Even though it seems to be new in town, it looks nice and as they say it is very easy to use.

Regards,
Ernest

I have gone to addanything.com and loved the way it works for me. I give it a 8 out of 10 for online classified sites.

Craigslist has huge traffic advantage, but it should start to consider changes parallel to Kijiji, olx, backpage or oodle. At Canada.Siftin.com (http://canada.siftin.com), I found out that many times, I am getting better results from Kijiji. In order for Kijiji to fly, they need to keep on buying there competitions.
