Forbes.com published a story Aug. 22 by editor Michael Noer on two-career relationships that provoked a heated response from both outside and inside our building. Elizabeth Corcoran, a member of our Silicon Valley bureau and principal author of the magazine's current cover story on robots, sent in this rebuttal. Here's a link for reader discussion.
Careers and Marriage - Forbes.com
Wow - the hits just keep on coming ;-) Are you ready Boppers?
This article, infact, both articles, are able to resonate with me. Does that mean I am struggling with duality? :-)
Now that I am where I am, it's curious to compare pre-2002 life with post-2002 life.... i'm glad it's different.

RE July 27 long distance / calling card question
(Rates are for LD calls to Canada)
yak.ca (1010925): $.05/min
yak.ca (calling card and home carrier 1+ service): 3.5 cent/min
1010940.com: .039 min 2x + 30s increments (calls <10s free)
1010710.com: 1.00 for 60, then .04/min
1018888.com 1.00 for 45, then .05
offers $8.88/400min dial 1018888# to order
offers 18.88/1200min
1010100.ca: 4cent/min
Through CIBC:
prepaiddirect.ca: cici ($.05/min) & ola cards with no surcharge to use a payphone
xpresscall.ca (access number will recognize up to 8 of your phone numbers & pin for use elsewhere): 3.33 cent/min
My experiences:
(1) prepaiddirect cici's expire early
(2) xpresscall service seemed good and customer service was friendly, but long wait times saw me receive a yak calling card last week.
(3) I have yet to used the yak calling card. It's real plastic--not virtual--and claims to swipe in payphones for convenience. Swipe or tollfree access number is surcharged 5cent/min for a total of 8.5cent/min.
(4) From home I usually dial 1010940 and get a good connection. Same experience with yak dialaround for a penny more.
(5) I'm keeping Bell Residential as my LD provider for the option to use them in case other systems go down (e.g. another internet worm).
There used to be call extenders available to link the various area codes surrounding Toronto. I do not know about them or whether they still exist. I have never used them. Some were ad-sponsored aka 5-10 second delay.
