    « 8 Weeks to a Greener Planet: Week 1 »

To help celebrate Earth Day yesterday, I decided to take it up a notch with our own *home greening*.

Over the next 2 months, we will be introducing new habits, new activities and new actions to *be greener*.
First things first - no more bottled water. Both the Wiz and I love cold bottled water, but the side effects of all that wasted plastic (even if it’s recycled) are less than appealing.
Last night we broke down and got a snappy kitchen water cooler from Costco. Don’t bother going into the store to get one, they are only available online (we checked):-)

Stay tuned for next week, when I contemplate those nasty wanna-be plastic bags that you put your veggies in at the grocery store.

Great to see that it's Energy Star, and that you're not constantly reheating water in hopes that you may desire a cup of tea. However, from an environmental perspective, you still have shipping of the large jugs from the source to the store, from the store to your house, and the empty from your house to the store.

Or you can walk over to your tap, fill a Brita or kettle if needed and do away with all the burned fossil fuels... :o)

    Oh man.
We thought we overcame the hot water thing. I checked, and it can be just turned off.
Now I need to be able to find water that doesn't have the same eco footprint ;-)

I'm looking forward to following your Greener Planet advice. Having just watched Manufactured Landscapes at the Hot Docs Festival, I've also decided it's time to get even more serious about the environment.

    cheers, Mark

Matt: I decided on Canadian Springs Water. Water is sourced and bottled locally (less than 50 km from my house).
I wish I could dig up the distribution info, alas.... it's a step forward.
